We are committed to offering financial support through scholarships to deserving students in the local area who aim to pursue educational goals beyond high school. In providing this assistance, the desired outcome is that students fulfill professional objectives and lead successful, independent lives.
Richmond Alumnae’s Scholarship Program consists of the RAC General Scholarship, the Joyce C. Johnson Memorial Scholarship, the Lori Ann Whitehurst Scholarship, and the Florence B. Bowser Memorial Scholarship. Depending on available funds, several students will be awarded the RAC General Scholarship. The Joyce C. Johnson and Lori Ann Whitehurst Scholarships will each be awarded to one student. The Florence B. Bowser Scholarship will be awarded to two students. The amount awarded depends on available funds.
The Richmond Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is excited to offer a scholarship opportunity for students residing in the Richmond Metropolitan area. The RAC-DST General Scholarship will assist with financial support to students who have demonstrated the need to pursue higher education.
Seniors representing their high schools as High Achievers in Richmond Alumnae’s High Achievers Program are encouraged to apply for the General Scholarship. All students must meet the following criteria:
Must be a graduating senior attending high school in the Richmond metro area (City of Richmond, Charles City County, Chesterfield County, Hanover County, Henrico County, and New Kent County);
Must possess a 2.75 (unweighted) grade point average;
Must plan to attend a two or four-year college/university in Fall 2024.
Annually, the Richmond Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. sponsors this scholarship in honor of our late member, Joyce Cole Johnson. Soror Johnson was a long-time educator within Richmond Public Schools and loved supporting students as they pursued their educational and career goals. Therefore, it is fitting that the JCJ Memorial Scholarship supports students who are planning to pursue studies in the field of Education. In addition to majoring in the field of Education, students must meet the following criteria:
Must be a graduating senior attending high school in the Richmond metro area (City of Richmond, Charles City County, Chesterfield County, Hanover County, Henrico County, and New Kent County);
Must possess a 2.75 (unweighted) grade point average;
Must plan to attend a two or four-year college/university in Fall 2024 and major in Education.
The Lori Ann Whitehurst Scholarship seeks to the honor the memory and legacy of Lori Ann Whitehurst, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. In her short life, Lori made a positive impact at her university and in the community. A graduate of both Hermitage High School and James Madison University, Lori lived a life of giving back to her community; serving with love, joy, and commitment. To apply for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
Must be a female graduating senior attending either Hermitage High School (HCPS) or Open High School (RPS);
Must possess a 3.0 grade point average;
Must plan to attend a two or four-year college/university in Fall 2024.
Funded by the KLM Scholarship Foundation, the Florence B. Bowser Scholarship seeks to honor the memory and legacy of Florence Bowser, a dedicated educator and community activist. She used her ingenuity, tenacity and burning desire to educate poor African American children. To apply for the scholarship students must meet the following criteria:
Must be a female student currently enrolled in the 12th grade;
